Jane is married, with 4
children and 5 grandchildren. She has an abiding interest in young
people, having started her career as a teacher, then becoming involved
as a volunteer with the Playgroup Movement, running a playgroup
and as a field worker, tutor, county chairman and member of the
National Executive. In 1980 she joined NCC Social Services Dept.,
working at first with the elderly and later again with children.
Jane joined the Liberal party in the late 1950s and her first brush
with local politics was campaigning in a Council election in Woking,
Surrey - a disheartening experience.
Her election to the District Council happily coincided with her
retirement from full-time employment, although her husband, Ian
has been heard to say that he hasn't noticed the difference. Other
interests, when time permits, are walking, bird watching, gardening,
history and architecture.
